Barbour Clothing Profile

Barbour, a British home and apparel company founded in 1894 by John Barbour. Barbour was born in the Scottish town of Galloway, but left Scotland at the age of 20 years to move to South Shields in the north of England. Always interested in art and clothing apparel, opened his first shop in 1894.

His first shop selling mainly clothing, including jackets and boiler suits were very popular among artists and the flourishing town of South Shields. In the early 20th century, two of Barbour’s son Jack and Malcolm, who joined the company as equal partners with their father, the clothing industry has grown from strength to strength. One of the best ideas of business was a catalog of the clothes they were globally distributed, and in 1917, international orders, more than 75% of their sales, with orders to those from as far away as South America and asia.

Clothing

People wear clothes for their bodies from natural conditions. Heat, extreme cold, humidity and strong sunlight, some of the reasons why people have started to wear clothes in the first place. But the clothing of humans have evolved over the years a symbol in itself. The transfer of a social message to a wide variety of boxes, clothing, accessories and decorations have become a reliable way to indicate social status, occupation, economic status, ethnicity, l ‘marital status, sexual orientation and religious beliefs.
